Business Gas

Choosing the best business gas supplier?

Which contract is right for me?

This depends on your business type, where you’re located, annual gas consumption & meter size and your appetite for risk.

Choosing the Right Business Gas Supplier

Gas suppliers assess your business risk. If they like what they see, they can compete on the pricing they offer. Credit score, years in operation and sector are all assessed. The more gas and electricity, the higher the potential for better prices. If it all stacks up, then they can be flexible to win your business.

This is where Touchstone can help. With close professional relationships with a range of suppliers we work with those most likely to value your business, building competitive quotes to secure best market rates.

Multi-site and Multi Meter Pricing

Multi-site contracts can be a headache with plenty of potential to pay over the odds. One needs to dedicate time & energy to ensuring all details are up to date and correct, whilst also navigating between suppliers & competing offers, with full evaluation of their proposals. We broker multi-meter supplies simultaneously, increasing buying power & reducing contract administration.

Green Gas

We source green gas for charitable & business clients across the UK, helping clients deliver their environmental objectives & make a positive commitment to sustainable values. Micro Business vs. Non-Micro Business

OFGEM provides greater protection to Micro Businesses.

A Micro Business is defined as: A non-domestic consumer that meets one of the following criteria:

You are deemed to be a Micro Business if you meet any one of the above criteria. Otherwise you are treated as a Non-Micro Business.

Micro business customers can give termination notice at any time during their contract. Suppliers must clearly state the contract end date and notice period on bills and energy contracts for micro business consumers.

Non-micro businesses do not qualify for the same protection & need to be vigilant about contract renewals & automatic rollover. Make sure to submit a Termination Letter to your current energy supplier. Without termination your contract your may be placed on Deemed Rates, also known as Rollover Rates. These premium, penalty prices can double your current tariff!

Contract Management is part of Touchstone’s brokering service.

Finding Your MPRN

The Meter Point Reference Number (MPRN) is a unique number assigned to each UK gas supply to identify the individual gas supply point.  They are formed of numbers only & consist of between 6 and 11 digits. The gas MPRN should not be confused with a Meter Point Administration Number (MPAN) which is the equivalent identifier for electricity. MPRNs & MPANs are usually printed on energy bills.

MPRNs and MPANs are different from the meter serial number printed on the meter itself.

If your MPRN is not printed on a recent bill or if have just moved into new premises and do not yet have a gas bill, you can find your MPRN by:

4 Ways to Reduce Costs

1. Switch Contracts Regularly

2. Pay by Direct Debit

3. Manage consumption and increase energy efficiency

4. Monitor energy use with our Monitoring & Targeting cloud based tool

Moving premises

What happens when I move premises?

Completing a ‘change of tenancy’ with an energy supplier ensures you only pay for the energy you use, not the previous occupants’ consumption. It also enables you to agree a price with a supplier instead of paying expensive ‘deemed rates’. If in doubt please contact us, we’ll be happy to help.

Energy contracts relate to a specific meter & are specific to that address. When you leave the site, your contract can be ended from the day your occupancy ends. It doesn’t transfer to your new address. BE SURE TO TAKE PHOTOGRAPHIC METER READINGS WHEN MOVING IN OR OUT OF A PROPERTY.

Touchstone can tender widely on your behalf to find the best deal & save time & money, when you move into a new property.

What happens when I switch my business gas supplier?

There won’t be any disruptions to the energy supply when you switch gas supplier. The old and new suppliers coordinate to arrange the switch-over. Business gas contracts have no cooling-off period.

Be sure you take photos of final meter readings and send them to your old supplier so they can send an accurate final bill, and an opening meter reading to your new supplier.
