The Energy Action Group (EAG)
The Energy Action Group (EAG) was established in 2010 as a joint enterprise between the Development Trust Association of Wales (DTAW) and Touchstone Energy Management Services, a full service energy company with procurement and energy efficiency skills, and a history of working in the charitable and community sectors.
Both parties recognised the failings of large energy suppliers to deliver value for money to smaller organisations, even to the point where they were being taken advantage of.
The simple response was based on the premise of ‘strength in numbers’, i.e. Collective Buying Power, and thus was born the Energy Action Group, one of the oldest energy buying baskets in the UK.
Individually, energy consumers have little influence over their suppliers, due to their size. This can leave them vulnerable to uncompetitive pricing, poor customer service and loss of control over their financial costs.
The EAG provides a group tendering annual energy basket where the energy consumption of hundreds of organisations is aggregated and tendered to a wide range of suppliers. The size of the basket is a motivation that encourages improved pricing from many suppliers.
What does the EAG look like today?
The Energy Action Group annual buying basket continues to gain new partners on a regular basis and now boasts 5 partner organisations with a combined membership of over 5,000 individual members. Every year we tender millions of kilowatt hours of gas and electricity, with water services gaining momentum.
How has the EAG changed over the years?
The energy world is barely recognisable since 2010. The big issue now is global warming which is a huge concern amongst charitable and 3rd sector organisations. The EAG is focusing on addressing the issues and delivering solution by providing a range of tools and techniques to help members reduce their carbon emissions.
Amongst other services the EAG brings to its members are:
- Group Buying
- Energy Management
- Customer Service
- Changes of Tenancy
- Asset Transfer
- Renewables
- Onsite Generation
- New Connections
- Smart Metering
- Energy Efficiency
