Energy Efficiency Benefits, What Are They?

Energy efficiency

The invisible benefits of reducing energy consumption and improving environmental efficiency in buildings.

Energy Usage

With energy prices reaching unprecedented new highs, and carbon emissions continuing to cause environmental damage, it’s incumbent on every company to do everything possible to reduce their energy consumption

However, lowering running costs and reducing CO2 emissions are 2 of the more obvious benefits associated with reducing energy consumption, but there are several other benefits associated with becoming more environmentally efficient that are not as immediately clear.

1. Buildings that undergo energy efficient improvements generally increase in value.

Did you know that energy efficient buildings are highly valued? According to a report released in Microgrid Knowledge, numerous buildings are already reaping the rewards associated with upgrading and retrofitting properties.

Similarly, research has found that buildings with energy efficiency incorporated in their design have much higher rates of occupancy compared to traditional, inefficient brick and mortar properties. But that shouldn’t stop businesses with older buildings from trying. Most buildings, even older ones, can benefit from retrofitting with energy efficiency features and that will enhance their value.

2. Energy efficiency can enhance your brand in the eyes of the public

Energy efficiency can save you money due by reducing running costs, but it can also enhance your reputation and instil greater levels of visitor confidence. Organisations that have made their green credentials a core part of their overall offering are regarded as more attractive by consumers.

There is evidence to back this up. Recent studies have found that 88% of consumers believe brands they associate with should be making a conscious effort to benefit the environment, with the vast majority of those interviewed saying that they would rather engage with an organisation that has made an obvious effort to be green.

3. Energy efficiency can benefit the health of your employees

Many people are unaware that the health of their employees can be enhanced through greater levels of energy efficiency. A report released by the International Energy Agency (IEA) comprehensively concluded that by enhancing insulation, ensuring air circulates efficiently, installing efficient lighting and improving heating systems, the work environment becomes more comfortable. Not only does this benefit museum visitors, but it also results in lower employee sickness.
